Studying international relations at , and being one of 10 Albanian students to ever study in this program it is both a priveledge and the biggest challenge.
Studying about all aspects of what makes up society , and how society functions based on its rule of law or lack thereof has naturally brought up a lot of old scars of living in Albania in the early 90s as well as migrating to United States.
Human relations is a field that is never-ending and always requires our attention — because as the old saying goes you can eat a whole bag a salt with someone and have lived with them your whole life and still not fully know that person — let alone when we are speaking about whole cultures and societies that make up each patch in this huge fabric of humanity here on earth ..
Learning by taking in lessons, finding healing in solving the puzzle of why things happened the way they did and also giving as much of my lived knowledge — I couldnt help but to go to Albania and share with the students some of my enlightnments during this program .. 1. always know your rights and that of others 2. belive in yourself - because if you cant do it , who will? 3. dont let people change the very good things about you - remember your grandparents .. but at the same time learn and read as much as you possibly can.
This was my message when I visited Tirana and Durres Albania this January 2024 , to hand out the syllabus to one of my favorite classes in hopes that “negotiating for humanity” course would be a staple in the curriculum of Albanian highschools.
