European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed that sanctions are already hitting Russia’s economy hard: inflation remains high, the key interest rate is at 17%, and access to financing is shrinking.
Notably, the EU’s LNG import ban will take effect in January 2027 — a year earlier than initially planned.
