I am so blessed to have been a child of the 1960s. There, I got to witness democracy and how unified voices used their power to change the trajectory of political corruption. I bore witness to courageous faith-base leaders, who put their lives on the frontlines during our human and civil rights demonstrations for justice and equality. I saw firsthand how our leadership understood the importance and strength in multiculturalism and how it yielded positive outcomes.
So today, when we look at President Donald Trump with such disdain, know that each of us are to blame. He’s the product of a nation that failed to protect its democracy and rights of each citizen. As a narcissist, liar, molester, womanizer, insecure manipulator, and master deflector, he constantly throws crap on the wall and waits for you to take the bait. He intentionally throws racism into the equation to blur the lines and deepen the divide between the poor and working classes, while the rich get more wealth on the backs of the poor. He wants you to believe it’s a black and white issue vs the wealthiest 1% of Americans against the poor and working classes.
Sadly, the poor and working class are fighting one another along party lines as angry democrats and republicans. Yep, we took the bait. We failed to see our commonalities. In a capitalist country, poor whites and poor blacks have much more in common than not. If our politicians can throw fundraiser after fundraiser, then they need to put these facts on the forefront and educate the voters to the truth of what’s happening.
The reality is both parties need to be overhauled if democracy is to be saved. The overhaul must take place in our local regions first. It is in the base of the political machine and culture that breeds corruption. So, as former President Barack Obama often say, “Don’t be mad at Trump. Do something.” Do more than just post about birthdays, anniversaries, chicken dinners, fundraisers, ordination services, wealth building, etc. Add to your platforms issues that impact the least of us while beginning the course of change.
Finally, don’t forget that DEMOCRACY vs AUTOCRACY are on the ballot.
