Mum here: Opie never really caught on learning how to clean up his toys. He would grab them and give them to me, but I couldn’t really figure out how to teach him to put them in the toy box. I say this because Blue could already do it, so it was no big deal. I didn’t put in the effort needed for Opie to learn. It’s back to basics with Blue and I decided to do it with Opie as well.

I watched training, her dog, which is magnificent to watch if you haven’t taken a moment to do so, and decided I was going to try something similar. You can teach an old dog, new trick, tricks, for sure!

Blue was on a pack walk with so Opie and I had some quiet time. For 20 minutes, we sat on the floor and worked on this, plus a couple of other things. You are seeing the video right from the beginning. You see Opie doesn’t understand exactly what I want, but within 30 seconds he gets it. He ended up continuing to put the ball in the container 60 to 70% of the time. We will do this every day for five or 10 minutes until he does it at least three times in a row. I will let you know how long it takes for him to understand what I’m asking if I would having to use my hand as a guide. Let me know if this is a task your dog performs whether it is a pet or a service dog. And let’s help each other out and share other ways to train this.
