Olive was on the loose since July after she made a brave dash for freedom from a NY dairy farm. The search for Olive grew more urgent when we were told that she might be pregnant, but when we learned that she might’ve already given birth, our team dispatched immediately and found Olive’s baby in the woods, in desperate need of medical care.
Sadly, Olive’s baby was found to have untreatable musculoskeletal and joint abnormalities and was in pain and would not have survived. There was no likelihood that he could recover, so veterinary staff made the difficult decision for him to be euthanized.
In the dairy industry, moms never get the chance to raise their babies because they’re taken away shortly after birth so their milk can be sold for humans to drink instead. Even though Olive escaped the industry, she’ll never have the chance to raise her baby.
We know Olive deserves a second chance at life, so our rescue team worked tirelessly for 6 weeks to bring this mama home to sanctuary. For the first time in her life, Olive has autonomy, so she didn’t make this rescue easy. She’s understandably scared of humans and even escaped the pen after our team secured her. Olive has the will to survive at all costs. Thankfully, she decided we could earn her trust.
