Unpack the complexities of Taiji - The evidence of cruelty in drive hunts is abundantly clear... as we shed light on how it impacts facebook video today.

Taiji: The evidence of cruelty in drive hunts is abundantly clear and continues to be exposed for the world to see both by advocates within Japan, and internationally. We continue to call upon the Japanese government to put an end to these brutal hunts. ADD YOUR VOICE at:
Footage of this pod of pilot whales is from Japanese advocate Sachi , shared by request in hope of international pressure to end these hunts.
What is happening in this footage?
On October 27, 2025 a pod of short-finned pilot whales was driven into the cove in Taiji, Japan. Until October 29th, they were left netted the cove awaiting slaughter. Reports state at least 10 individuals were killed over the course of nearly 4 arduous hours. Pilot whales are known to be highly intelligent, slow to reproduce, and highly social with strong family bonds. Even for the surviving individuals, the stress and trauma of witnessing their pod slaughtered is an unimaginable toll.
Why do these hunts happen?
Nine dolphin species are targeted in these hunts for either live capture for the aquarium trade, or slaughter for their meat. A live dolphin sold into the aquarium industry brings in a far greater profit than a dead dolphin sold as meat- which also has very little demand. The multi-billion dollar industry dolphinarium industry is by far the primary economic driver that causes these hunts to continue- if the dolphin show stops, the slaughter stops, too.

Is there any good news?
Continued exposure of this practice is a vital step in the fight to end these hunts for good.

Thanks to exposing these hunts and the issues surrounding dolphin captivity:
- 80+ captive dolphin facilities have closed/never opened globally.
- Both capture and slaughter numbers in the hunts have declined significantly in recent years.
- South Korea + growing number of regions around the world have banned importing Taiji’s dolphins.
- India, Greece, Canada, France have banned/are phasing out cetacean captivity altogether.
- Dolphin hunters in Taiji have also recently expressed they believe activism is taking a toll on their business, as dolphin sales in recent years has dwindled.
