PUBLIC STATEMENT (ENGLISH)
Rasha Qandeel
President – MENA Region
Icons of Change International**
Today, I am pleased to share the regional philosophy, strategic vision, and two-year engagement framework that will guide Icons of Change – MENA Region under my presidency for the years 2025–2027.
This marks the beginning of a new chapter—one defined by transparency, thoughtful leadership, and a commitment to elevating unseen change makers across the Middle East and North Africa.
In a region shaped by complexity, diversity, and resilience, real transformation often begins far from formal institutions and public recognition. My leadership philosophy is grounded in the belief that true change emerges in the shadows—quietly, steadily, and driven by individuals whose courage does not wait for applause.

1. A Leadership Philosophy Built on Integrity and Inclusion
Real change begins where visibility ends.
Our work in MENA will focus on discovering and elevating those who have long carried their communities without institutional support:
teachers in underserved schools, journalists on the frontlines, young innovators in refugee camps, women building micro-initiatives, human rights defenders, environmental pioneers, and countless others.
These “Gems in the Shadows” will be the heart of the MENA chapter.
Transparency as a foundation for trust.
Every award, recognition, and decision made in the region will follow strict ethical and non-transactional standards.
No financial influence.
No political pressure.
Only merit, integrity, and impact.
Inclusive reach across the region.
Our mandate stretches beyond major cities into:
rural villages, border communities, conflict-affected areas, informal settlements, and populations historically excluded from recognition.

2. A Strategy Aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals
The MENA strategy aligns with all 17 SDGs, with SDG 16 — Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions — serving as the anchor of my presidency.
Our work will strengthen visibility, credibility, and resilience across the region by:
• Building a transparent and ethical recognition ecosystem
• Reaching communities in fragile and marginalized environments
• Expanding partnerships with civil society, academia, policy institutions, and innovation hubs
• Empowering women, youth, refugees, and persons with disabilities
• Supporting sustainable development through thematic focus groups linked to each SDG

3. A Two-Year Engagement & Outreach Plan (2025–2027)
Under my leadership, Icons of Change – MENA will actively engage with:
• Individuals: frontline journalists, teachers, doctors, community leaders, human rights defenders, gender advocates, climate youth
• NGOs: civil society organizations, humanitarian groups, gender justice initiatives, environmental networks
• Grassroots groups: youth collectives, community mediation networks, volunteer circles
• Small community projects: water access initiatives, local food systems, education micro-projects
• Academic & policy institutions: universities, research labs, governance centers
• Private-sector innovation hubs: ethical startups, clean-energy companies, women-led SMEs
• Youth networks: debating teams, MUN clubs, climate movements
• Women-led collectives: feminist groups, legal aid networks, survivor-support circles
• Marginalized communities: refugee camps, remote villages, minorities, stateless groups
• Impact labs: policy studios, design labs, SDG pilot initiatives
Each SDG will have a designated focus group in the region, ensuring comprehensive alignment with global development priorities.

**4. Signature Focus of My Presidency:
Discovering “Gems in the Shadows”**
Our priority will be to spotlight authentic change makers who have operated for years without resources, visibility, or institutional recognition.
These are individuals whose work shapes lives — not for rewards, but for responsibility.
This is the essence of the MENA vision and the heart of our strategic identity.

5. Governance, Integrity, and My Role
As President of Icons of Change – MENA Region:
• My role is strategic, voluntary, and non-operational
• I carry no financial, fundraising, or administrative duties
• My mandate focuses on governance, ethics, and long-term regional credibility
• All processes will be transparent, accountable, and aligned with international standards
This leadership doctrine ensures that our work remains responsible, principled, and true to the mission of Icons of Change International.

Closing Message
The Middle East and North Africa is rich with resilience, innovation, and courage.
This strategy is my public commitment to shine a light on those whose impact deserves to be seen and recognized.
Together, through this transparent and inclusive framework, we will elevate the voices and visions shaping the future of our region.
