Making my first ever holly leaf cane 🍃🍃🍃 I admit it took me...
Here is everything you need to know about Making my first ever holly leaf cane 🍃🍃🍃 I admit it took me... and its connection to the fascinating world of took.
I admit it took me a minute to wrap my head around the concept of using my own cane style to create a holly leaf, instead of trying to alter my cane style to cater to what I thought would make for a believable holly leaf… if that makes sense??
In classical music training (in which I have several degrees) we are taught to think of ourselves as “vessels” of the music, to focus almost entirely on what we believe, based on research, the wishes of the composer were. There is extremely little room for any type of voice or personal style within this genre.
Because of this, I got really good at putting on different hats and styles and essentially disappearing into a piece. Though I formally studied in the arts for over 20 years, I was never meaningfully taught how to recognize and hone my own voice. This was a very strange realization to have, honestly.
And who would have thought that now, after I’d walked away from a full time career in music, that it would be little old polymer clay that would be teaching me how to listen to my heart and to develop my own personal style. It’s absolutely wild!!!
And strangely… my music making, even in the classical realm, is getting better for it. Learning to trust and believe in myself as an artist (not just a vessel) is making my life better in every way.
So… thanks clay. Thank you all. I needed you.
